LOVING HOME
Experiencing guilt over the recent death of a loved one, Broadway superstar Gavin Davis, whose real name is Hugo Diaz, takes a leave of absence from his current theatrical production to clear his head. Leaving New York City as well as his “Gavin” persona behind, Hugo travels to the quaint town of Lakeview where he hopes to rest and enjoy the town’s annual heritage festival.
Upon arrival in Lakeview, Hugo and his dog Oz check into Lakeview Lodge, a charming bed and breakfast run by the Mathison family whose members have no knowledge of his Broadway fame. Warm and welcoming, Carol Mathison greets Hugo and shows him around the lodge while explaining that she has decided to sell it to developer Nate Walker so that her children Brady and Jamie can be free of it and live their own lives. When Hugo and Brady meet, Carol hopes the two men will hit it off romantically; however, neither one is eager to rush into a relationship. Learning of Jamie’s interest in musical theater, Hugo begins to mentor her. As the Mathisons prepare the lodge for sale, they begin to wonder what the future holds. Permanently leaving home will be difficult for each of them. Brady realizes his identity is closely tied to the lodge itself and Jamie fears that leaving Lakeview may bring an unwanted end to her relationship with her boyfriend Duncan. At the same time, Hugo explains that he has no understanding of “home” because his family and his career forced him to move often, without ever establishing meaningful roots anywhere. While Brady and Hugo grow closer, Brady helps Hugo deal with the guilt he feels over his friend Ben’s recent death. Meanwhile, Hugo helps Brady make sense of his complicated relationship with his father, who died before they could reconcile after a bitter argument. When Brooke performs alongside Hugo at the heritage festival, audience members recognize him as “Gavin Davis,” blowing his cover and dashing his chance for a future with Brady. As the festival comes to a close, Hugo puts in motion a plan he hopes will not only salvage his relationship with Brady but also finally help him to understand the true meaning of “home.” |
