CHRISTMAS CONUNDRUM
Snowboarding superstar Christian Reed takes a bad fall during a run, landing him the hospital with a serious injury. After surgery, he moves back home to a small town in Utah where his family owns an inn to avoid the press and recover under the care of his physical therapist Melissa Rogers. During his stay, Christian helps his grandmother Judith run the family business.
Faced with dwindling subscriptions at his publication, Adam Boswell sends reporter Rose Barclay to Utah in pursuit of an exclusive interview with Christian. Annoyed that she has to spend the holiday season in a small town, Rose reluctantly heads to Utah to write her story. When the Reed Christmas Tree Farm opens for the season, Judith and Christian offer Melissa and her son Will a free Christmas tree as a "thank you" for Melissa's physical therapy work with Christian. The tree is delivered to Melissa's home by Doug Foster, Judith's handsome employee who is immediately attracted to Melissa. Will connects with Doug, who helps set up the tree in their living room. Christian and Rose start off on the wrong foot when she arrives in town and they have an argument over a Christmas tree. However, Rose knows she must win Christian over to get an interview, so she checks into his family's inn and begins to learn more about his family. Disappointed with his post-surgery progress, Christian wonders if he'll ever be the snowboarder he was before the accident. When he expresses his despair to Melissa, she encourages him to keep trying and reminds him that there are many ways to enjoy a snowboarding career besides professional competitions. When Christian learns that Will has secretly been teaching himself to snowboard, he offers to coach the boy. As the town's WinterFest kicks into high gear, Judith enters Christian and Rose into a holiday scavenger hunt as a team. Likewise, Doug asks Melissa to be his teammate in the competition. Finally, Robert McGann, the town's mayor, invites Judith, on whom he has a crush, to be his teammate in the contest. The scavenger hunt proves to be a successful event that brings all three couples closer together. One night, Rose finds Christian in the attic looking through old photos and artifacts belonging to his deceased father, who taught him how to snowboard. Realizing her growing feelings for Christian, Rose writes a positive, supportive article about Christian, referring to him as a "hometown hero." Outraged, Adam rejects the article and demands that Rose write the "tell all" article about Christian that she was hired to publish. When Christian reports his successful snowboarding lessons with Will to Melissa, she hugs him warmly. Will witnesses the embrace and misinterprets it to mean that his mother has romantic feelings for Christian. Doug arrives at the house to ask Melissa on a date, but Will shares his "secret" -- that his mother is going to marry Christian -- with Doug whose hopes of being with Melissa are dashed. When Christian accidentally discovers Rose's revised, negative article with the headline "From Sports Hero To Small Town Zero" on her laptop, he is devastated and asks her to leave the inn. Despite her attempts to explain, Rose cannot get through to Christian. As Christmas approaches, Christian, Rose, Doug, and Melissa cope with their fractured relationships and pray that a Christmas miracle will bring them all back together. |
