MARRIED AT CHRISTMAS SYNOPSIS
Two years after their first date at Cory’s Place, Giovanni Rossi and Javier Garcia have a great deal to celebrate. Gio has become principal of his elementary school, Javi has become owner of Lakeview Latte, and they are planning a Christmas double wedding with their best friends Marci Morgan and Clint Anderson. To celebrate the two-year anniversary of their first date, Cory presents them with a special cake and champagne while declaring that he hopes to one day be as happy as they are.
The previous two years have been good for Marci and Clint as well. She now teaches music permanently at Gio’s elementary school while working on her first album under the guidance of producer Bruce Johnson. Clint now serves as principal of the local high school; however, financial struggles and declining enrollments in the school district continue to be a source of concern for both Clint and Gio. On the other hand, Lakeview Latte is thriving. Both Carmen and Marilyn work at the original store location and Javi has recently opened several additional stores throughout the area. When personal trainer Mark Lawson stops in at Lakeview Latte for some coffee, he introduces his new business partner Alex Lin to Carmen. They start off on the wrong foot when Alex criticizes Carmen for not offering healthier choices at the store. Mark plays referee and gets Alex out of the store before the argument escalates. At school, Eddie and Lucy invite Alex’s son Mikey, who has just transferred into the school, to sit with them at lunchtime. Eddie and Mikey immediately because buddies, while Lucy fears the “new kid” is stealing away her best friend. As Gio and Marci take the lead planning their upcoming weddings, Javi and Clint scramble to find the perfect wedding gifts for their spouses. Marci continues to work on her album as Gio confides in Clint that the School Board may force him to cut the school’s fine arts programs, which would leave Marci without a job right before Christmas. One night while Carmen is putting Eddie to bed, he asks his mother if she’ll ever get married again. When she says she doubts it, Eddie says that she should. He knows in his heart that his Papa would not want Carmen to be alone for the rest of her life. Gio grows concerned when he notices Javi spending more and more time alone with Mark, who stole Gio’s boyfriend Ted away from him. When Gio fears history may be repeating itself, both Marci and Marilyn reassure Gio and encourage him to share his concerns with Javi directly. He finally agrees; however, an argument erupts between them when Javi encourages Gio to mend fences with Mark. When Alex asks to meet with Javi to discuss healthy options to sell in the store, Javi agrees over Carmen’s objections. The three sit down to talk and sparks again fly between Alex and Carmen. Knowing that Carmen is hiding her true attraction to Alex, Javi sets up yet another meeting for them to discuss new product offerings. Over time, the ice between Carmen and Alex begins to melt and they admit they enjoy spending time together. As the double wedding approaches, Javi and Gio have a heartfelt conversation about Mark, during which Javi reveals Mark has recently overcome a battle with cancer. Gio and Mark finally talk and put the past behind them for good. At the same time, Clint shares with Marci the financial state of the school district, which will ultimately impact her job. With the wedding only days away, an electrical fire destroys the wedding venue, leaving Gio and Marci with no other choice but to cancel the event. However, some quick thinking by Javi and Clint, along with a Christmas twist of fate, saves the day. Carmen and Alex attend the wedding together, while Mark wonders if he’ll ever have a wedding of his own. After the two couples exchange their vows, Marci reveals that the proceeds from her new album will be used to set up a fine arts fund at Gio’s school. Playing matchmaker, Marilyn introduces Mark to Cory. And Clint and Javi finally reveal their surprise wedding gifts to their spouses. |
